History of the Organization
Journey Projects, a limited liability company, was formed after Laurie Frey participated in a clinical trial consisting of chemotherapy, surgery, radiation and additional chemotherapy. The purpose of the company is to create projects with a stamp of passion and originality that would eventually promote change.
The first original project is a musical, UNBEATABLE : A Musical Journey, theatrically based on one woman’s journey from a diagnosis of breast cancer through the treatment process to eventual victory. The show was birthed during Laurie's actual cancer treatment as humor and music allowed her to embrace each moment.
The second project is an autobiographical book that takes you step by step through a year of a clinical trial. This clinical trial was for invasive breast cancer patients (stage 3) and consisted of extensive pre-testing, chemotherapy to shrink the tumor (which started out as 9 cm x 10 cm), then surgery, radiation and finally more chemotherapy. In addition to the cancer diagnosis and treatment during this year, Laurie’s journey includes having her only child diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome (also referred to as high functioning autism), her brother went to Kuwait and Iraq with the Army Reserves and her father had open heart surgery that kept him in the ICU much longer than anticipated, and she and her husband were building a house through it all. This book, as the title states, will reveal the whole story - humor, pain, fear, joy, faith, anger and survival.
